TARA A. ELLIS, MEALS ON WHEELS FOR WNY PRESIDENT & CEO
Growing up, the importance of family, empathy for others and a sense of community were continually instilled in me by my parents. I believe those very values are what led me to Meals on Wheels. After years of working in government and business, I knew that I wanted to do something meaningful and mission-focused with my life.
After working for a basic biomedical research non-profit which was searching for cures, I was hooked. I knew that I needed to invest my career in a challenge and a mission that I could believe in and be dedicated to both personally and professionally.
Meals on Wheels is a mission I can believe in from the bottom of my heart. Every time I deliver meals, speak with clients or volunteers, or complete a project that helps move this organization forward, I truly believe in what we are doing at Meals on Wheels. I close my eyes and see my Sicilian Nana talking about the importance of family and of helping others. I can almost smell her perfume and hear the rhythm of her voice.
I know that many in the community aren’t as lucky as my Nana was, and don’t have a large family to support them. That’s why I do everything in my power to make sure that Meals on Wheels isn’t just a crucial safety net and daily lifeline – it’s a family.
