Today, Walmart presented Meals on Wheels for WNY with $150,000 grant for its critical meal delivery oven project.
The old meal delivery ovens are 17 years old and are no longer able to be repaired – with broken hinges, dents and inoperable heating coils. The $150,000 will enable MOW-WNY to purchase 250 new ovens, hundreds of new oven covers and the racks with electrical plug-ins to heat the ovens up to temperature each morning.
“We couldn’t provide our crucial life-saving service to the community without the right equipment to keep our food safe and healthy for those in need,” Tara A. Ellis, President and CEO, Meals on Wheels for WNY, said. “I am so incredibly grateful to the team at Walmart for this extremely generous donation that will enable us to replace badly outdated equipment and help ensure that we can keep serving seniors for many years to come.”
“At Walmart, we take pride in partnering with local organizations that help build stronger communities. Meals on Wheels does extraordinary work, touching the lives of thousands of Western New Yorkers by providing healthy meals. Walmart is very pleased to contribute to this mission,” Mike Judd, Walmart Market Manager, said.
“Meals on Wheels volunteers deliver hot meals to the community. Today Walmart is delivering important funds to purchase necessary equipment for the people of Western NY who rely on these vital services” NYS Assemblyman Michael Kearns, said.
“Meals on Wheels provides an invaluable service for thousands of elderly and disabled residents throughout Western New York,” said Mayor Byron Brown. “I commend The Walmart Foundation for supporting this important work, the grant will allow Meals on Wheels to continue to provide these critical services to our most vulnerable residents.”
“I am excited that Walmart has partnered with Meals on Wheels for Western New York to purchase much needed equipment. People 60 & over throughout Erie County are living longer, beyond their children and families, and rely on this nutrition program for socialization and meals on a daily basis,” said Legislator Barbara Miller-Williams.
“Meals on Wheels is vital to the community and we are happy that Wal-Mart is giving back to an organization that works to provide food and friendship to our residents,” said Councilman Richard A. Fontana.
Thank you to Walmart for this generous donation and to all of our elected officials for their continual support and commitment to our mission.
