MOW-WNY RECEIVES $1500 GRANT FROM MEALS ON WHEELS AMERICA FOR SHARE THE LOVE CAMPAIGN

The Meals on Wheels Foundation of WNY (MOW) is proud to announce it has received a $1,500 grant from Meals on Wheels America for its participation in Subaru of America’s eighth annual Share the Love Event. During the event held from November 22, 2015 through January 2, 2016, Subaru of America, Inc. donated $250 for every new Subaru vehicle purchased or leased to the customer’s choice of participating charities, including Meals on Wheels America, of which MOW is a Member.

“The need for our program continues to grow and we are always facing new challenges – such as the current need to pilot two additional diet types to meet changing client needs,” Tara A. Ellis, President and CEO, said.  “These partnerships mean so much to us in terms of supporting the vulnerable homebound of WNY.  We are very grateful to Meals on Wheels America, West Herr Subaru and Subaru of America for this $1,500 grant.”

MOW partnered with West Herr Subaru during the 2015 holiday season to raise funds and awareness of senior isolation and hunger across WNY.  MOW promoted the Share the Love event via press releases, a website article, social media mentions, and communications to employees, board members, committee members and volunteers.  MOW also has shared information about Meals on Wheels’ services with West Herr staff.

In addition, MOW was listed as the local charity option for the third year in a row and will shortly have an announcement from West Herr Subaru and Subaru of America regarding their donation associated with the 2015 campaign.

“Over the last eight years, Subaru and its local retailers have truly become an extension of the Meals on Wheels family, and their impact is felt long after this popular year-end event concludes,” said Ellie Hollander, Meals on Wheels America President and CEO. “Subaru’s continued investment in the Meals on Wheels movement helps communities across the country deliver more nutritious meals, friendly visits and safety checks to our most vulnerable seniors.”

The 2015-2016 Share the Love funds will continue to benefit local Meals on Wheels America Member organizations throughout the year through additional grant opportunities, Annual Conference scholarships and by sponsoring the organization’s annual March for Meals campaign.
