SISTERS OF CHARITY, MEALS ON WHEELS PROVIDE SUNDRIES TO SENIORS

SpringSundries-2015This morning, more than 280 Meals on Wheels clients in the Cheektowaga area received gift bags from Sisters of Charity Hospital (both their Main Street & St. Joseph campuses) – with donations brought in by hospital staff – and Meals on Wheels for WNY.

The “spring sundries” program, as it’s called, provides those in the community with necessities and niceties such as tissues, toothpaste, lotion, cards, stuffed animals and other small gifts in celebration of the Easter season.

Gift bags were blessed and then loaded into vans for delivery to the Meals on Wheels sites.  The blessing took place at Sisters of Charity Hospital.

“Most of our clients are homebound and many are alone,” Rachel Leidenfrost, Chief Communications Officer said.  “For the frail elderly or disabled, the gift of these sundries is deeply appreciated.  The practical gifts are both used and needed, and many of our clients are touched to know that someone is thinking about them and wants them to have a special spring gift.”
