Meals on Wheels volunteers across Western New York are enjoying new delivery equipment thanks to generous grants from the Citizen’s Bank Foundation, The Marks Family Foundation, and BJ’s Charitable Foundation.
The laminated meal delivery bags, sporting the Meals on Wheels for WNY logo and contact information, act as form of identification for volunteers as they approach a meal recipient’s door. The bags are designed to protect the food as it is moved from the delivery vehicle to the client, shielding the temperature-sensitive meals from the elements. To make delivery of meals inside apartment buildings easier for volunteers, new top-loading insulated bags also were purchased. These bags can hold several meals and are able to keep hot meals warm for longer periods of time.
Meal delivery bags have been a staple in the delivery process for many years. The previous bags had been in use for nearly a decade, before wear and tear of daily use prompted the need for new equipment.
Each of the 25 Meals on Wheels delivery sites received the new delivery bags at the start of this month. Thank you to our friends at the Citizen’s Bank Foundation, The Marks Family Foundation, and BJ’s Charitable Foundation for their support of this project!
