Today marks our organization’s 45th anniversary!
Meals on Wheels for WNY started out delivering to 25 people on the West Side of Buffalo. Now, 45 years later, the organization delivers to 3,600 homebound seniors and disabled individuals each year out of 25 local sites – for a total of 900,000 meals per year. In fact, Meals on Wheels for WNY is the second largest MOW in the nation (out of more than 5,000), having reached 25 million meals in November 2012 and 26 million this past winter.
We are honored to have received letters of recognition and/or proclamations from our federal, state, county and city representatives, including a proclamation from Buffalo’s Mayor Brown declaring today “Meals on Wheels” Day! Today’s meal delivery will include a special anniversary cookie to celebrate the occasion.
Thank you to everyone who has helped us deliver the gift of food and friendship to the homebound elderly and disabled of Western New York over these past 45 years!
